SENT in Poland: When Does Your Shipment Require Registration?

If goods are transported through Poland, certain categories of cargo may require registration in the SENT system.
This should be taken into account at the route planning stage, as SENT requirements may affect transport documentation, vehicle selection and technical requirements, as well as the overall cost of delivery.
What is SENT?
SENT is Poland’s electronic system for monitoring the transport and trade of certain categories of goods.
The system is used to monitor road and rail transport within Poland, including shipments that:
- start in Poland
- end in Poland
- transit through Poland
For shipments subject to SENT requirements, the relevant transport notification must be registered electronically and kept up to date throughout the transportation process.
For road transport, the vehicle must also transmit geolocation data in accordance with SENT requirements.
Which goods may be subject to SENT?
SENT does not apply to all cargo.
Depending on the specific CN code, product characteristics, quantity and transport conditions, the system may apply, among others, to:
- fuels and petroleum products
- lubricants and certain lubricant products
- certain chemical products
- products containing ethyl alcohol
- certain vegetable oils and fats
- selected categories of clothing and textile products
- footwear
- other goods specified by Polish regulations
The product name alone is not sufficient to determine whether SENT registration is required.
The key factors are the CN code, product characteristics, quantity or weight, and the transport arrangement.
Clothing and footwear: specific requirements
In 2026, Poland extended SENT monitoring to selected categories of clothing and footwear.
Under the rules effective from 20 June 2026, monitoring may apply, among others, to:
- clothing and clothing accessories under CN Chapters 61 and 62 where the gross weight of the relevant consignment exceeds 31.5 kg
- worn clothing and other worn articles under CN code 6309 00 00 where the gross weight exceeds 31.5 kg
- footwear under CN Chapter 64 where the consignment contains more than 64 individual items of footwear
Certain exemptions apply to these categories, so the need for SENT registration should always be confirmed based on the specific CN code and transport conditions.
What does SENT mean for LCL shipments?
For consolidated cargo, SENT requirements should preferably be checked before the shipment is assembled.
If one of the consignments within an LCL shipment is subject to SENT, additional transport arrangements may be required.
In particular, it may be necessary to:
- determine whether the specific goods are subject to SENT
- inform the warehouse or the party responsible for preparing the shipment in advance
- prepare the information required for transport registration
- submit the relevant SENT notification
- arrange a vehicle that complies with the geolocation data transmission requirements
These requirements may affect both the organisation and the cost of transportation.
For this reason, SENT requirements should be checked before transport is booked and the consolidated shipment is prepared, rather than once the cargo is already in transit.
How can you determine whether SENT applies to your shipment?
If the goods fall within a category that may be subject to SENT monitoring, the following information is required for an initial assessment:
1. The 8-digit CN code
Classification under the Combined Nomenclature is one of the key criteria used to determine whether SENT requirements apply.
2. A detailed description of the goods
General descriptions such as “clothing”, “chemicals” or “oil” are not sufficient.
3. Quantity and weight
For certain categories of goods, Polish regulations establish specific threshold values.
4. Route and transport arrangement
It also matters whether the goods are being imported into Poland, exported from Poland, or transported in transit through Polish territory.
Once this information is available, our team can review the requirements for the specific shipment and confirm whether SENT registration is necessary.
Why should SENT requirements be checked in advance?
SENT is not a formality that should be left until the cargo reaches the Polish border.
Checking the requirements in advance helps to:
- plan the route correctly
- prepare the required documentation
- arrange suitable transport
- account for additional costs
- reduce the risk of delays during transportation
Not sure whether your cargo is subject to SENT?
Send us the 8-digit CN code, a detailed description of the goods, the weight and the planned route. Our team will review the requirements for the specific shipment and help arrange the transport correctly.
