Intermodal Delivery of 13 BESS Units from China to Moldova and Ukraine

We organized the international transportation of 13 twenty-foot BESS units (Battery Energy Storage Systems) from China to Moldova and Ukraine.
The route included sea freight from China to Bulgaria, port handling, transshipment, and onward delivery by rail.
The cargo itself was a key feature of the project. Each BESS unit weighed around 45 tonnes and contained lithium batteries.
The BESS units transported under this project were classified as dangerous goods, Class 9, UN 3536. This required additional documentation, permits, handling procedures, and careful organization at every stage of the route.

Transportation Specifics
One of the main challenges was the weight of the cargo. At around 45 tonnes per unit, the shipment required suitable equipment, carefully planned handling operations, and precise coordination at each stage.
In total, the project involved approximately 585 tonnes of specialized technological cargo moving through sea, port, and rail stages.
BESS transportation requires attention not only to cargo weight. The presence of lithium batteries and the Class 9, UN 3536 classification meant that the shipment required the appropriate permits, documentation, and controlled handling procedures throughout the route.
Our team coordinated the sea freight, port handling, transshipment, permitting procedures, and onward rail transportation.
Result
We completed the multimodal delivery of 13 BESS units with a total weight of approximately 585 tonnes from China to Moldova and Ukraine.
